The most awaited night...Lailatul Qadar

The Night of Decree or the Night of Power (lailatul qadar) is the most awaited night for mu’mins who are fasting in the month of Ramadhan and devote themselves to Allah subhanahuwata’ala in submission and spiritual devotions. The blessedness of this night is clearly stated in Surah al-Qadr, that the excellence of a moment of ‘ibadah on this night is equivalent to one thousand months of ‘ibadah in other months. The hadith of the Prophet stated that, lailatula qadar will occur in the last ten nights of Ramadhan, meaning in the 21, 23, 25, 27 and 29th night of Ramadhan (al-Bukhari).

On this night, believers are encouraged to spend his or her time in the state of ‘ibadah such as tahajjud, reciting Qur’an, zikir, tasbih, tahmid, and do’a, as well as doing tafakkur, and iktikaf in the mosque. And all this acts of ‘ibadah must be done with the highest degree of sincerity that is to seek for His pleasure in this world and hereafter. On that blessed night the Angel and the attending ones from on high will come down to this worldly domain to spread peace and salutations of security to the believers the world over. Anyone who finds himself or herself in this state of ‘ibadah is promised by Allah with bountiful and incomparable rewards and his ‘amal is equivalent to the one done in 1000 months. In other words, 1000 months is actually equivalent to 83 years and 4 month of ‘ibadah. Masya Allah.

It is also stated in the Surah al-Qadar that peace and serenity will reign supreme until the appearance of the true dawn ushering in the time of the morning prayer. Therefore, it is most fervently hoped that we are granted by Allah this incomparable spiritual boon of experiencing it while we are in the state of devotions and submission unto Him, the Supremely Exalted and Infinitely Beneficent. What supreme boon it is as a preparation for the believer to participate in the joyous spiritual gratitude of the ‘Id al-Fitri, the ‘Id of Breaking fast, a foretaste of the paradisiac state which is to come, amin.
